Unashamedly inspired by America’s abstract expressionists, my visceral paintings are created using a profusion of vibrant colour and exuberant gestures. They are also chock-full of paint.
Indulgent amounts of heavy body acrylic are applied directly from the tube to build spontaneous compositions that pulsate with energy, coupled with the added delight of their tactile impasto surfaces.
My art is a serious business, yet within its abstract discipline I strive to make paintings that are a celebration of pleasure, joy and frivolity, all wound up in the undoubted beauty of colour.
I work from a studio in Reeth in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales and will be having a solo exhibition at The Station Gallery in Richmond, North Yorkshire from September 6 to October 3, 2019.
